Field of view for near-field aperture synthesis imaging.

چکیده

Aperture synthesis techniques are increasingly being employed to provide high angular resolution images in situations where the object of interest is in the near field of the interferometric array. Previous work has showed that an aperture synthesis array can be refocused on an object in the near field of an array, provided that the object is smaller than the effective Fresnel zone size corresponding to the array-object range. We show here that, under paraxial conditions, standard interferometric techniques can be used to image objects that are substantially larger than this limit. We also note that interferometric self-calibration and phase-closure image-reconstruction techniques can be used to achieve near-field refocusing without requiring accurate object range information. We use our results to show that the field of view for high-resolution aperture synthesis imaging of geosynchronous satellites from the ground can be considerably larger than the largest satellites in Earth orbit.

An overview of scanning near-field optical microscopy in characterization of nano-materials

Scanning Near-Field Optical Microscopy (SNOM) is a member of scanning probe microscopes (SPMs) family which enables nanostructure investigation of the surfaces on a wide range of materials. In fact, SNOM combines the SPM technology to the optical microscopy and in this way provide a powerful tool to study nano-structures with very high spatial resolution. In this paper, a qualified overview of ...

Terahertz near-field interferometric and synthetic aperture imaging

The imaging properties of planar, spherical, and circular interferometric imaging arrays are examined in the near-field region limit. In this region, spherical and circular array architectures can compensate for near-field distortions and increase the field of view and depth of focus. The application of near-field interferometric imaging to the Terahertz frequency range for detection of conceal...

Advantages and Drawbacks of Near-field Characterization of Large Aperture Synthesis Radiometers

Accurate characterization of an aperture synthesis radiometer requires making measurement of its performances inside an anechoic chamber. However, due to size limitations, the sources used in the process have to be located at distances too short to be able to apply the far-field condition of the instrument. Although the fundamental equation of aperture synthesis radiometry derived for far-field...

Semiconductor Dynamic Aperture for Near-Field Terahertz Wave Imaging

We describe and discuss near-field terahertz wave imaging with a dynamic aperture created on a semiconductor wafer. The spatial resolution of a near-field terahertz wave imaging system with a dynamic aperture created on a GaAs wafer is determined by the diameter of the gating-beam-induced thin photocarrier layer. With a dynamic aperture created on a GaAs wafer, we have achieved a subwavelength ...
